The the accountant movie is a sequel to the 2016 film of the same name. It stars Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, who have both returned for the new installment.
The Accountant director Gavin O’Connell has announced that a sequel has recently been inked, with Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal reprising their roles. Of course, when it will happen is unknown, but there is no turning back now…
Contracts for The Accountant 2 have been signed, according to director Gavin O’Connor. Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow appear in The Accountant, which was written by Bill Dubuque and directed by O’Connor. After the film’s first box office success, a sequel appeared virtually inevitable.
Since 2017, there has been rumors about the filmmakers beginning a sequel, although progress has been sluggish. In a major update on the project’s progress, O’Connor said that contracts have now been finalized, indicating that The Accountant 2 is on track for a release. Fans of The Way Back will be disappointed to learn that, unlike The Accountant, the picture will not be receiving a sequel. From the ReelBlend podcast by CinemaBlend:
“There will be no sequel to The Way Back, but we will do a sequel to The Accountant. We’ve just completed the transaction. We’re re-enacting The Accountant.”
Better yet, according to O’Connor, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal will reprise their roles from the previous film. Bernthal’s character Braxton is revealed to be the long-lost brother of Affleck’s Christian in the first film, so he’ll likely have a larger part in The Accountant 2. In addition to the first sequel’s ambitions, O’Connor stated that he already has ideas for the third installment and that the sequel would be created with The Accountant 3 in mind. As the director put it:
“I’ve always wanted to do three since the second one would have more… We’re going to include his younger sibling in the narrative. As a result, Bernthal will get greater screen time in the sequel. The third film is what I like to refer to as “Rain Man on steroids.” The third film will focus on the two brothers, who are an unusual pair…
In a 2019 interview with Collider, Affleck mentioned the potential of a sequel, but he wasn’t sure whether it would happen. He said that he would be open to repeating the part in a sequel and that he had a great time working with O’Connor. He also spoke about how they explored potential plot lines for the future film.
“I certainly hope so. When asked whether there will be a sequel, Affleck replied, “I’d love to.” “We spoke with the studio, and they looked intrigued, and they mentioned it, so we agreed to do it. I believe it would be enjoyable. I adore Gavin, and I adore the film we made together. It was a fantastic experience, and his role in The Accountant was one of my favorites. I’d be willing to consider it.”
Because there hasn’t been much information released regarding Part 2 of The Accountant, it’s unclear when shooting will begin or when it will be released in theaters. In any event, this is great new information about where the movie is heading and where it wants to go next for fans who are anxious to see more of Affleck and Bernthal in The Accountant 2.
